The 19th Annual FOSSILS Porter Competition

It's a little late, but here is the flyer for this Year's Porter Competition.  Remember, entering costs nothing, and only 2 bottles are needed.  If you've got a Porter that you'd love feedback on and would like to participate in what is one (if not the only) of the longest running Porter competition put on by an AHA Club.

Prizes have not been announced yet, certificates and medals will be mailed out to non-FOSSILS members.

Cheers!

Indiana Homebrew Clubs,

Below is the email I sent out last week with the details of this year's "Brew-B-Q".  Please let me know that you have received this with a quick email response, and also let me know if you think some members of your club will be attending (and maybe a guess at how many – you can update this later when you know more, but we are trying to get a rough estimate for planning purposes).

Also, please double check your club listing at the bottom of this email, and let me know if it needs any corrections (also let me know if I'm missing any clubs you know of).

Hopefully we will have another great turnout this year !

Thanks,

Ron Smith

PREVIOUS EMAIL:

Indiana Homebrew Clubs,

Hopefully everyone already has Saturday, Oct 8th on their club calendars for this year's Indiana Homebrew Club Day / Brew-B-Q, which will be the 5th Annual event!  Everyone is excited about the move to the cooler Fall date, so it should be a great time!  This year's event will be jointly hosted by Great Fermentations and Bier Brewery, which are in the same building in Northeast Indianapolis.  Both businesses will be open, so you can do some shopping at Great Fermentations and do some sampling and get a growler or two at Bier Brewery, which is making some awesome small batch beer.  The plan is basically the same as previous years…

--- Make sure your club knows about the event!!!
--- The event is all about celebrating homebrew club life, and our hobby of brewing beer, as well as to get to know other clubs and club members from around the state in a fun, non-competitive environment.
--- Have as many club members as possible attend the event (they will be glad they did).
--- The event runs from 2:00 to 7:00, but feel free to arrive around 1:00 to set up if needed.
--- Bring beer to share with others.  Some just bring bottles and coolers and others go all out and bring lots of kegs and elaborate bars, jockey boxes, etc.  Do whatever you want, just come and bring some beer.
--- Bring a pop-up canopy or two in case it rains (it is a rain or shine event) and some chairs, your favorite drinking vessel, etc.
--- Wear your club shirt, if you have one, so we know what club you are in / where you are from.
--- FBI club member, Frank Petrarca, along with some helpers, works for days preparing a big spread of smoked meats that is awesome!
--- Other FBI club members bring various side dishes, and the club provides buns, sauces, etc.
--- I usually acquire a lot of door prizes from area breweries, liquor stores, etc., so lots of door prizes are given away (feel free to bring anything you would like to donate to the prize list).
--- The event is free to attend, but donations are very welcomed to help us pay for the meats, supplies, the port-o-let, etc. (we just want to break even… or at least not lose too much J).
--- Lastly, please drink in moderation and don't drink and drive !!!

As everyone who has attended previous Brew-B-Q's knows, this is a really fun day and one not to miss.  Please let your club know about it and plan on attending.

If possible, please let us know approximately how many people from your club will be attending.  Just send me a quick email.

 New Albanian Bottle Launch Party
Join us on March 24th from 5 - 8 PM as we welcome our friends from New Albanian Brewing Company and help them launch their newly bottled beer.  Bottles of Elector, Hoptimus and Elsa von Horizon will be available for sale, and discounted for the day of the event.

Womens' Brew-in 2011

Hey crew, it's never to early to plan ahead:

The 2011 Women's Brew In will be April 9th at the Capshew's.

More details to follow, but for most of you, please keep in mind the pertinents from previous brew-ins listed below (anything that looks or sounds like sarcasm from this point is completely unavoidable and unintentional):
Day & Location:
Women's Brew-in 2011
April 9th at the Capshew's
7720 Corydon Ridge Rd.
Lanesville, IN
There will be a gathering followed by brewing led by someone.  New women brewers are welcome and encouraged.
Someone will bring some homebrew.  Trust me.  It may even be YOU!
If you are new, or a dude, then you might want to know what is done at these things:
  • make beer
  • drink beer
  • eat
  • drink beer
  • raffle
It is called by many the most "Fun" thing that we do all year.
IF there is a sleep-over, there will be a slumber party, breakfast and probably something to drink like bloody marys in the morning.
Things to think about bringing to the brew-in:
  •  lawn chair
  • raffle items  (our raffle at this brew-in is a little different from regular meetings....girly stuff encouraged!)
  • sleeping roll/ pj's
  • A dish to share for dinner or dessert, or pot luck
  • snacks for daytime/late night
  • money to buy raffle tickets
  • beer?
  • drinking vessel
  • a flashlight might be helpful for getting back & forth from barn - house - campfire.  put your name on your gear.
Maureen will be looking for volunteers.  Please volunteer.  There are activities usually throughout the day, including crafts.  This is a great crew that set this up and you are bound to have a GREAT time.
There will probably be a Cabana Boy.  If you'd like to audition or apply - please forward your resume and a photo with good lighting to Mor.
"As always, we plan this as an overnight event so that nobody leaves after drinking.  This is very important!   If you cannot stay the night, please be advised that you'll need to establish your sobriety and leave directly after the raffle.  After that point, everyone is here for the night!"
"Babies are welcome.....but if they can walk and talk they need to be 21!"
"Join in.....and pass this on to anyone else that might be interested.  You don't have to be a homebrewer, who knows, you might end up leaving as one."

Compiled my your Minister of Disinformation,
Joe Bray

More information and directions will be posted closer to the event.
